Robert Carr (b. 1916) was elected to the Commons in 1950 as a Conservative. He was Secretary of State for employment in 1970-72, lord president of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons in 1972, following William Whitelaw, and Home Secretary in 1972-74. He became a life peer in 1976 as Baron Carr of Hadley. |
