1974 - 1976

Edward Short (b. 1912) became a Labour MP in 1951. He was chief whip in 1964-66, postmaster general in 1966-68, Secretary of State for education and science in 1968-70, and Leader of the House of Commons and lord president of the council in 1974-76. He became a life peer in 1977 as Lord Glenamara.
