John MacGregor (b. 1937) entered the Commons in 1974 as a Conservative. He was chief Secretary to the treasury in 1985-87, minister of agriculture, fisheries and food in 1987-89, Secretary of State for education and science in 1989-90, Leader of the House of Commons and lord president of the council in 1990-92, and Secretary of State for transport in 1992-94. He became a life peer in 2001 as Lord MacGregor of Pulham Market. |
