Justice and Security (Northern Ireland) Act


Key Benefits

Delivers a number of measures which reflect the progress towards normalisation in Northern Ireland. These include:

Provision for jury reform and a new system of non-jury trial, following the repeal of the Diplock Court system.

Provision of powers for the armed forces, police and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Provision for the extension of the remit of the Security Industry Authority to Northern Ireland and an extension of the powers of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC).
