Compensation Act


Key Benefits

The Compensation Act contains provisions relating to the law of negligence and breach of statutory duty; damages for mesothelioma; and the regulation of claims management services. The Compensation Bill was introduced in the House of Lords on 2 November 2005, and received Royal Assent on 25 July 2006.

The Act forms part of a wider programme of work which the Government is taking forward to tackle perceptions that can lead to a disproportionate fear of litigation and risk averse behaviour; find ways to discourage and resist bad claims; and improve the system for those with a valid claim.
