ARMED FORCES BILL |
KEY MEASURES
- Continuation of the statutes governing the armed forces.
- Replacement of the existing separate legislation for each of the Services with one Act establishing a single system of Service law, including:
- a summary discipline system with a harmonised range of offences capable of being dealt with by commanding officers, and harmonised powers of summary punishment; and - a harmonised court martial system, including the establishment of a Joint Prosecuting Authority.
- Streamlined grievance procedure for members of the armed forces.
- Harmonised system of Service inquiries.
- Provisions to continue the application of Service law to accompanying civilians overseas.
TERRITORIAL EXTENT
The Armed Forces Bill will apply to all of the United Kingdom. Its provisions also apply to those who are subject to the Service Discipline Acts, wherever they are in the world; and to Service courts whether or not they are in the United Kingdom.
